Description
These CVC Words Map and Cover Task Cards are a hands-on Science of Reading phonics center designed for encoding CVC words through word mapping (phoneme–grapheme mapping.) Students look at a picture, map each sound, write the word, then cover the picture. This consistent word mapping practice supports orthographic mapping and helps CVC word practice actually stick.
How the activity works
Students repeat the same simple steps each time:
- Look at the picture and say the word.
- Map the sounds (tap and segment, then move counters into the boxes).
- Write the word.
- Cover the picture.
