CVC WORD BUILDING MATS AND ACTIVITIES

Once your children have a strong foundation in letter-sound association (phonemic awareness), they are ready to begin learning to read and spell CVC words. CVC words are the first step to understanding that sounds combine to make words. As children need lots of practice in reading CVC words to build fluency, we want to make sure that the CVC activities are fun, hands-on, and keep children engaged. The CVC Word Building Mats are a great way for students to work on their CVC word building and spelling skills. There are a variety of options such as roll a dice or spin a picture and build the CVC word. Also, the CVC word building activities come in printable and digital versions making them ideal for classroom literacy centers, homeschooling, and distance learning.

The CVC Word Building Mats and Activities include 72 CVC word lists that are split into the following categories:

Each CVC word list includes three different activities:

• Build the Word (Printable and for Google Slides)
• Roll and Build the Word
• Spin and Build the Word (Printable, Google Slides, and PowerPoint Digital Spinners)

Each printable word building mat comes in 2 versions – with a word bank included and with no word bank. This adds up to 432 printable CVC word building mats which makes it ideal for differentiating word work activities.

Please note that the Word Building Mats for Google Slides and the PowerPoint Digital Spinners do not come with a word bank.

Build a CVC Word Family Mats

There are 20 CVC Word Family lists included in this bundle. They cover the following word families:

Build a CVC Word Mats

In the Build the CVC Word Mats, children are provided with a row of pictures representing the CVC words, a group of letters that they will need for building the words, and a space for placing the magnetic letters.

These CVC Word Family Mats are a great way for teaching children the patterns found in the word families. As they build the CVC words belonging to each family, they will begin to recognise the sound and spelling patterns.

Roll and Build a CVC Word Mats

The Roll and Build a CVC Word Mats add a game element to word building. Children roll a dice and build the matching CVC word. As with Build the CVC Word Mats, this mat has a group of letters that children will need for building the words and space for placing the magnetic letters.

Spin and Build a CVC Word

Finally, for the children that love spinner games there is the Spin and Build a CVC Word Mats. Children spin a picture and build the matching CVC word.

All of the word building mats come with a version where the word bank is not included. This is a great way to differentiate the word building activity. Below are examples of the word building mats with no word bank included on the mat.

Mixed CVC Word Families and Mixed CVC Words

All of the CVC Word Building Mats come in a digital version for Google™ Slides. Please note that the Word Building Mats for Google™ Slides do not come with a word bank as the children type the words they build in the activity. By typing the words a level of accountability is integrated into the word building activity.

Spin and Build the CVC Word with Digital Spinners

The CVC Words Spin and Build activity is also available for Google Slides.

In addition to the CVC Word Building Mats for Google™ Slides, included in the bundle are digital spinners for each word list. The spinners are opened using Microsoft Powerpoint. Children use the printable word building mat to build the word they spin using the digital spinner. There is no need to print spinners and provide paperclips and pencils or plastic spinners!
