Fall Worksheets for Kindergarten: No Prep Math and Literacy Activities

By the time fall settles in, students know the routines, you know their names, and every day they need practice with learning letters and numbers. These fall worksheets for kindergarten give you 137 print-and-go pages across math and literacy, from letter recognition and beginning sounds to number bonds and teen numbers, all tied together with fun themes that include pumpkins, acorns, and leaves. The activities come in many formats, including color by code, cut and paste, roll and color, and read and write, so you can choose the right one for each skill and each student without searching for something new. Here’s what’s inside, and a few ways to use the pages once they’re printed.

Why No Prep Fall Worksheets Save You So Much Time

The biggest thing a good worksheet gives you is time. There’s nothing to laminate, cut, or sort into baggies, so the prep that usually eats into your evenings simply isn’t there. Print the pages you need for the week and they’re ready to go.

That’s also what makes them so flexible. The same page can sit in a math or literacy center, keep the rest of the class busy with purposeful practice while you run small groups, or give students a calm start to the day as morning work. Keep a few extra copies in a folder and early finishers and sub plans are covered too, without planning anything new.

Inside the Fall No Prep Math and Literacy Bundle

The Fall Math and Literacy Activities Bundle for Kindergarten pairs both packets, so you’re not buying math and literacy from two different places during one of the busiest seasons of the year.

Here’s what’s included:

  • Fall Math Activities (65 pages) – counting and number recognition to 10, ten frames and subitizing, teen numbers and place value, addition and subtraction to 10, 2D shapes, non-standard measurement, time to the hour, patterns, and graphing
  • Fall Literacy Activities (72 pages) – alphabet and letter recognition, phonemic awareness and letter sounds, CVC words and word family sorts, sight words and sentences, and fall vocabulary

Both packets are also sold on their own if you only need one: Fall No Prep Math Activities or Fall No Prep Literacy Activities.

Fall Math Activities: Counting, Ten Frames, and Number Sense

The math packet starts with forming numerals and matching them to a set. Students trace numbers and number words to 10, count and color the leaves, put pumpkin numbers in order with cut and paste, connect the dots from 1 to 10, and count pumpkin seeds, finishing with the numbers that come before and after.

Number sense gets more pages than any other math skill. Students color ten frames to match a number, build ten frame puzzles, compare ten frames and pumpkins to find the greater number, and use color by code worksheets to practice subitizing from 1 to 5 and 6 to 10. Color by number pages for 1 to 5 and ten frames to 10, plus a color by code number sense page, turn the same practice into a picture to finish.

Several of these activities work as games. Roll and color needs a dice, and spin and color needs a pencil and a paper clip.

For more practice with the same skills, the Fall Subitizing Activities and the Fall Number Sense Color by Code packet both build on the formats your students already know from these pages.

Teen Numbers, Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction

Once counting to 10 is solid, the packet moves on to numbers 11 to 20, with teen ten frames, a color by number ten frames page, number order, numbers before and after, and a tens and ones page.

Addition and subtraction follow: making 5 and making 10, adding with dots and counters, number bonds to 10, pumpkin subtraction, and color by code pages for adding to 10 and subtracting within 5.

Because both skill sets are included, you can give different students different activities, which makes differentiating simple.

Shapes, Measurement, Time, and Graphing

The rest of the math packet covers the skills that are easy to squeeze out of a busy fall. Students match 2D shapes, count the pumpkin shapes, color by shape, and spin and color. For measurement, they color cubes to measure fall animals and record how many units. There are worksheets that cover time to the hour, one asking students to write the digital time to match a clock and the other to draw the hands. A fall patterns page and a spin and graph page finish the packet.

For a hands-on version of the same skill, the free Pumpkin Measurement Task Cards bring non-standard measurement into a math center.

Alphabet and Letter Recognition Activities

Letters get the largest share of the literacy packet. Students trace uppercase and lowercase letters, fill in the missing letters of the alphabet, and cut and paste alphabet puzzles to match the two cases. On Raking Letters, they color the matching lowercase letter. The letter match and write pages cover A through Z, so you can print only the letters you’re teaching that week.

Color by code sorts cover letters and numbers, uppercase and lowercase, and vowels and consonants. Letters in my Name gives every student a page about their own name. With all the tracing, cutting, and pasting, this section builds fine motor skills along the way.

Phonemic Awareness, Rhyming, and Letter Sounds

Next come the listening skills. Rhyming Pumpkins has one page for each short vowel, Falling for Syllables has students color the matching number of syllables, and Sounds of Fall practices beginning sounds.

Two sorts finish the section: a color by code sort of letters and words, and a cut and paste sort of real and nonsense words. The nonsense word sort is a helpful decoding check, because students can’t rely on recognizing a word they’ve seen before.

Students also write the beginning, middle, and ending sound on separate pages.

CVC Words and Word Family Sorts

Twelve word family sorts cover twenty-four families across all five short vowels, from an and at through to ug and un. Students cut out the pictures and paste each one under the family it belongs to.

The read and write pages add one page for each short vowel. Students read the word, write it, and color the matching picture, so reading and spelling practice happen together. Because the sorts are grouped by vowel, they’re easy to line up with the order you teach short vowels.

Sight Words, Sentences, and Fall Vocabulary

The literacy packet finishes by moving from words into sentences. Students fill in the missing sight word in fall sentences, work through four color by sight word pages covering twenty high frequency words, and cut apart scrambled sentences, put them back in order, and then write the sentence. The scrambled sentences use grade appropriate sight words, so students can focus on word order. Two color word pages sit in this section too.

Parts of a Scarecrow and Parts of a Book pair well with a read aloud.

If your students are ready to write more than a single sentence, the Fall Writing Prompts for Kindergarten pick up where these pages leave off.

How to Use These Fall Worksheets This Season

Both packets are ideal for:

  • Early finishers – the mazes, puzzles, and color by code pages
  • Partner work and centers – roll and color, spin and color, and the two race games
  • Quick skill checks – the beginning, middle, and ending sound pages and the number recognition pages
  • Theme days – pumpkin, apple, and Thanksgiving days all fit the fall theme

If you run centers alongside worksheets, the Fall Math and Literacy Centers cover the same skills in a hands-on format, with full walkthroughs in the Fall Math Centers and Fall Literacy Centers posts.
